Come away from your daily routine and indulge in the tranquil seclusion of Bowlish House. We’re well equipped for weary travellers and romantic weekends away alike. Located in the beautiful Georgian village of Bowlish, Bowlish House offers you a home away from home with a warm and friendly welcome. Each of our five bedrooms has its own style whilst retaining its original character. Our Georgian Palladian house, classed as Grade II*, has various features of special interest – the original Mendip lead drain pipes at the front carry the crest of the original owners and the year of completion, 1732. The walls and pillars topped with urns formed the entrance of the old gardens, now the Wells Road. A small spring rises under the cellar of Bowlish House and links up with an underground stream routed diagonally across the cellar floor just under the old flagstones. Thus the temperature of the large cellars is constant and varies by no more than 2 or 3 degrees on either side of 50 ºF, the ideal temperature for the storage of our selection of fine wines.
This perfect example of early Georgian architecture is the ultimate haven for a peaceful escape, an all-inclusive intimate wedding, a respectful wake or a quiet business meeting. We’re nestled on the Wells Road a stone’s throw from local attractions such as the ancient Cathedral city of Wells, Longleat Safari Park, Wooky Hole Caves, Glastonbury Tor, and the vibrant local towns of Frome and Bruton.
Bowlish House was completed in 1732 and is a Grade II Georgian house. Though lovingly restored, Bowlish House is not without its quirks, for example our creaky original floorboards. Guests can select from the Double Room, Family Room or three King Rooms which all feature smart-enabled flat screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. A continental breakfast is included in cost of booking and cooked breakfasts are available at extra cost. Our event spaces are open to guests for parties, conferences and private bookings, and our well-appointed sittings rooms feature roaring fires, classical portraiture, and cosy seating.
We look forward to welcoming you.
